Anita and Cynthia: I heard about your mum from John Chernick. We met at the McConnell family reunion in Port Stanley over the weekend. Anita, you must be so proud. He is a kind-hearted and gentlemanly young man. To you both, and to your families, we want to express our heartfelt condolences on Mavis's passing. I've known her forever, it seems, but I came to know her best when I delivered the Globe and Mail to your home every morning. Of course, I'd see her at the store and at numerous community functions as well. She was unfailingly warm, kind and generous. She was also always encouraging, and I always felt better after speaking with her. As I told Faye and Ellen last year, your family played a big role in my life as I was growing up: they were all dear to me, and I am grateful for them. Mavis was larger than life -- she was one of those women you knew was in the room as soon as she walked in -- and hers was a life well-lived. You are all in our thoughts. -- Terry and Vicki.

So sorry to hear Mavis has passed away. She was a great lady. She pierced my ears in the early 1970's. Help me pick out many gifts for others, my china and crystal, and was a great IODE friend. In the later years she would stop by Laura's Shoppe to check out new arrivals or just for a little visit on her daily walk downtown. Your family store was part of the heart of the town.

I remember Pete and Mavis very well. As a young person I really enjoyed going into Archer's Jewellery Store to purchase special greeting cards and to look at all the beautiful things in that store. Mavis pierced my ears with a darning needle at their home. I had to let the holes grow back in because of getting infection in both earlobes. I hated to have those sweet little studs removed! But, I had no choice. Later, I had them pierced again in a more up-to-date method. Mavis' sister JoAnne was a very influential person in my life! Sending condolences to all who loved Mavis!

My condolences to the family of Mrs. Archer. Growing up across the street, I have so many memories of both Mr. and Mrs. Archer (she was the first to pierce my ears!). Such a classy and stylish woman in all ways. May she rest in peace.
