Obituary of Maxine Marilyn Gardiner

GARDINER, Marilyn Maxine Of Tilbury, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the age of 74. Born in Chatham, Ontario on November 16, 1938, daughter of the late Archie McCoig and late Bessie (Graham) Gardiner. Survived by three sisters, Shirley and late Rene Blair of Jeannette’s Creek, Joyce and late LeeRoy Taylor of Straffordville, Patricia and late Mervyn Quiding of Tilbury and one brother Richard and Patricia Gardiner of Merritt, British Columbia. Predeceased by brother Archie LeRoy and sister Catherine Grace. Eleven nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Maxine retired from Public Library Service to Tilbury and Kent County in 1998 after 41 years of service. She was involved in community affairs, particularly Girl Guide movement, District Chamber of Commerce, Coordinator of Centennial Celebration 1987, Citizen of the year 1980, Heart of Gold recipient 1990, Editor of Centennial Book Celebration of Century 1887-1987. Maxine was a local Historian, Archivist, Genealogist, Artist, Writer, and Musician. She was a member of the Lt. Patrick Wilson Chapter IODE for the past 25 years. Maxine had a passion for painting, literature, history and music from a young age and well into her retirement. Visitation at Reaume Funeral Home, 6 Canal St. W., Tilbury from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. IODE service 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service at the funeral home Friday August 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tilbury Historical Society, Lt. Patrick Wilson Chapter IODE or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
