There will definitely be new books at St. Joseph School Library dedicated to your father's memory this year. Mary, and all the Murchland clan, thank you for sharing your dad with us. I'm sure it wasn't always easy or fun, provoking, more like, to have your life be so public because of his place in the community. But we do thank you for sharing. He was a good guy. Peace and comfort to you all.

While a loss for the family, his life was more than a gain for those of us whom he inspired to embrace the gift of our language, allow a passion for it and never let it rust (spelling always counts!!!). Undeniably my all-time favorite teacher, and this from a Chemist. God Speed, Fair Muse.

Condolences to the family. I was fortunate to have been one of his students for most of my time at high school. On behalf of the SCHIVES children (Sandy, Dale, Michelle, Darryl & Dean), we send our condolences.
We previously lived at 46 Fort Street.
Your father was a very intelligent gentleman who encouraged all.
What I remember so dearly about him would have been his commitment to walking faithfully to and from TDHS daily with Mr. Koste.
Also, him reading "The Windsor Star" on his front porch.
May God Bless and guide each and every one of you during this most difficult time.
Thoughts and prayers to each of your families.

I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Murchland clan - my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Growing up on Fort Street, Mr. Murchland was a delightful and commanding presence in our neighbourhood.
I believe his success as an educator was largely due to his charisma.
While I cannot attend the memorial service as I am an ocean away, I will buy two new books - one for each of my daughters - in tribute to the remarkable Richard Murchland.

We who have known 'Mr. Murchland' have lost a priceless gem. I'm certain I speak for a great many when I say that our prayers are with the Murchland family.

This day I cannot write, I cannot complete my thoughts. Mr. Merchland inspired me to embrace his devotion to the English language and so rewarded me for excellent essays on many great books he assigned. His passionate words and encouragement lead me further into life with excellent vocabulary and writing skills; all which I still use today and receive endless compliments for. I think of him everytime when someone appreciates what I have written. He is the reason I read Hemingway and can understand and anilize it. Thank you for your gift!
