Obituary of Frances Marguerite Hartley

HARTLEY, Frances Marguerite (née Hornick) After a brief illness, with her daughter and six grandchildren by her side at Bluewater Health on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Ivan Hartley (1981). Loving mother of the late Kenneth Hartley (2001), and Bonnie and husband Peter Humble. Predeceased by son-in-law Terry Gaw (2004). Cherished grandmother of Danna Hartley (Chuck), Kyle Hartley (Sandy), Trishia Hartley (Larry), Amanda Gaw, Marnie Crone (Eric) and Marcy Draker (Matt). Treasured Great-Grandmother of Braedon & Brette Lansue, Jenna & Nolan Hartley, Bryce, Owen & Giles Hartley, Ethan, Hannah & Lily Crone and Elijah & Wesley Draker. After graduating Tilbury High School, Frances attended Business College in Chatham, Ontario. She married Ivan on August 28, 1940. They settled on the Hartley Family Farm where they farmed the land and ran Hartley Trucking for many years. While still doing all the bookkeeping for the farm and trucking operation, Frances began working for Canada Post in 1965 and she ultimately retired from this position in the late 1980s. Frances remained on the farm until 2006. Her grandchildren relish the memories they have of growing up at the farm which include digging holes, playing in the barn and Christmas dinners. Frances lived independently at Thompson Gardens in Corunna, Ontario until she fell ill one week ago. During her rich life, Frances was an avid member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Women’s Institute, the United Church Women, the Tilbury Lawn Bowling Club, and the Quinn “Sister Act”. Frances was a member of Quinn United Church (which her father Elmer Hornick helped to build) for 91 years and at the date of her death, she was the oldest parishioner. Frances was an ardent world traveller in her retirement years and journeyed extensively throughout North America, Australia and Europe. Frances passed with the same dignity and grace with which she lived her wonderful life. Bonnie and the grandchildren would like to extend special and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Renato Pasqualucci, Dr. Michel Haddad, Dr. Robert Borek and the ICU nursing staff, Gemma, Kristina, Caryn and Jamie for assisting Frances with kindness and compassion on her journey. Visitation at Reaume Funeral Home, 6 Canal St. W., Tilbury from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011. Funeral service to commence at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Catherine Collins-Barker officiating. Interment at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorial donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or Canadian National Institute for the Blind appreciated.
