Obituary of David Howard McGuire
McGUIRE, David Howard
On the warm spring afternoon of April 16, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family, David Howard McGuire passed away at Chatham-Kent Hospice, at the age of 70. David was the beloved husband and best friend to Mary Lynn (nee Ouellette) for 50 beautiful years – an anniversary they happily celebrated recently. He was the cherished and ever-inspiring father to his three daughters, Sara McGuire of Woodstock, Lana and Jason Mullins of Petrolia, and Brenda and Ken McCracken of Lighthouse Cove. He was also the most supportive, loving and proud papa to Will, DJ, Kenny, Jillian, Max, and Samantha. He adored his children and grandchildren with all of his heart, and it showed in the many loving ways he supported their various activities and ambitions. David was the dearest, kindest and loving son of Betty (nee Washburn) and the late William McGuire (2015) and the best-ever big brother of Debra and Dennis Ouellette.
A true family man, David loved all of his extended family too. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Pat and Rob McGuire, and Kathy Ouellette, and is predeceased by his brother-in-law David Ouellette, and his father and mother-in-law Stanley and Dorothy Ouellette. David’s nieces and nephews, Amy and James Clark, Brad and Shauna Ouellette, Adam and Jessica McGuire, Meghan and Brandon Ferriss, John and Laura Ouellette, and Elizabeth Ouellette will miss him dearly. He is also survived by special cousins and aunts.
Born and raised in Valetta, David farmed alongside his father for many years. He later earned his Certified Financial Planner designation, started his own business, and dedicated himself to helping others achieve their financial goals. Many in the Tilbury community, where he lived, knew Dave because he did their income taxes annually.
David was a community leader. He shared his talents, expertise and friendship with others, volunteering as the treasurer of Valetta Presbyterian Church and McDowell Cemetery. He was a dedicated and proud member of the Tilbury Rotary Club since 1997 and was especially active in Rotary International duties for End Polio Now. His love of Rotary combined his passion for helping others with a love of travel and allowed him to make connections with people around the world, including the many exchange students he and Mary Lynn hosted over the years. Together, David and Mary Lynn travelled frequently, and they found themselves blessed to experience all the best things that life has to offer during their worldwide travels with their children, grandchildren, and friends.
With a larger-than-life presence, David was quick-witted and funny, friendly and welcoming, intelligent and wise, respected and deeply loved. He was a wonderful role model, always leading by example and staying true to his principles and values. His presence in his family, his circle of friends, and the community will be missed greatly.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, April 23 rd, 2023 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm at the Reaume Funeral Home Inc., 6 Canal Street West, Tilbury. A celebration of David’s life will be held at 11am on Monday, April 24 th , 2023 at the Tilbury Arena-Ryder Hall, 49 Bond Ave., Tilbury with friends being received prior to the service from 10-10:45 am.
