Doris Marchand

Obituary of Doris Jean Marchand

Doris Jean Marchand (nee Jubenville)

April 25, 1936 - December 26, 2022

Doris passed away peacefully in the light of her family’s love. Coming from humble beginnings in Prairie Siding, ON, the daughter of the late Randall (Chase) & Magdelena Jubenville, Doris learned quickly in life the importance of faith, humility and hard work. She was swept off her feet at a dance by her husband of 67 years, Donald Charles Marchand. Her dream of living in Tilbury came true, and they settled into their tiny 4 room home with no in-door plumbing.  Here the foundation for a life raising their three children, being a homemaker and a "farmer's wife", milking cows and driving tractors, was built. She developed an inner strength of determination and "grit".  Although they moved to Chatham just 10 months ago, her heart never truly left the farm. Camping, vacations across Canada and southern trips were enjoyed with family and friends. Twenty-six summers were spent at Mohawk Bay Park, Deseronto, sharing fun-times with family, fishing with grandchildren and enjoying the company of the many friends they made. As well as doing all the farm bookkeeping, Doris worked outside the home for local Tax Services and a local auctioneer. Her creative side led her to working at her best friend’s Craft Store. When they no longer farmed, working at Home Hardware became her full time job, retiring in 1997. Faith and prayer was an important part of her daily life. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Xavier Church, Tilbury. Mothering her children was her passion. She is survived by Brenda (Paul) Aarts (late Ronald Donais), Donna (Danny) Martin, and Francis (Frank) (Laurie) Marchand. Cherished mémé to Venessa (Steve) Roelofsen, Randall (Kim) Donais, Derek Donais, Rachael (Gabriel) Blanchard, Brent (Jennifer) Martin and fur-baby Macy. Great grandchildren Olivia, Sydney, Brock, Brody, Hayden, Nathan, Florence, Rosalie, Kian and Savannah were also  blessed to know the love of their mémé. Sister of Betty (2020) (Leonard) Breault, Harold (Buck) (2014) (Beatrice) (1973), (Victoria) (2006) Jubenville, and Nancy (Robert) (2018) Couture. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews including special niece Judy (Brian) Chapple. Predeceased by in-laws Frank & Mary Carrier, Leo (Laura) Marchand, Henry Marchand, Isabelle (Raymond) Ouellette and Stanley Marchand. A special thank you to HCCS, Dr Haddad, Dr Matsusaki, and C-K Hospice for their compassionate care. Mom, your hands were a mirror to the love in your heart. Always caring. Always sharing. Always busy, gardening, canning, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, crafting, rolling pie dough, baking (especially your famous butter tarts we fought over),  preparing & serving Sunday dinner feasts and fish frys. There are so many loving memories. We miss you terribly already. Thank you for your love and example. Visitation at St. Francis Xavier Church, Tilbury on Friday, January 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with Memorial Mass to commence at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations to Chatham-Kent Hospice appreciated.  Online condolences may be shared at www.reaumefh.com
