The twinkle in his eye added to his wonderful sense of humour and sense of fun. He was an intelligent, interesting man who will be missed by all who knew him. Our sympathy to Marion and family.

Papa, he was so many things to me through my life, a wise advisor, a knowlageable craftsman in nearly any avenue I had questions about, he was a friend when I needed one and a master chef when we wanted masted potatoes, apple pies or pancakes... Papa made us furnature for when we were tired and needed a place to sit, draw, sleep or for when we needed a place to put out toys (some of which he also made).
He taught us that a job wasn't done until we could be satisfied with the end result and to improve on our skills until we could be satisfied with our work.
He was a giant among men, a kind and hard working giant who would bring his grand kids ice cream if they called and asked even if it was late at night and we lived in the middle of nowhere.
His smell of swadust with the underlying scent of tool oil will always stay with me when I think of him, his kind smileing bearded face etched into my mind and the way he would sing "the cassions go rolling along" when we would pull out of the drive way and drive down the road.
I could not be more proud to be his grandson as he was a model of humanity and did his best to be a force of good in this world even in just small subtle ways.

He wore the smell of sawdust like cologne and I will never forget that, especially since we always came through his garage to go inside the house. I also have the honour of having a beautiful shelf that he made for me when I was little to hold my porcelain dolls. Beautifully made with love.
His beard was my favourite beard of any man on the entire planet. Our hugs weren't hugs. We did chin-to-beard rub/scratches. Kind of like a butterfly kiss but with his beard and my chin. I can't describe it right, but it was how we said our hellos and goodbyes. I don't even know how old I was when that started but I still did it the last the time I saw him.
And when he wasn't in his garage, he sat in his corner chair observing. Quietly chiming in with a witty comment, and getting up with a "yes dear" when being asked by Marian to do or get something.
I'll forever cherish him and the role he played as a second father in my life.

I remember hugs from Uncle Jack which always included a whisker rub. When my children would visit he would give them whisker rubs also. We always lived to visit
Uncle Jack and Aunt Marians.
