Rita Lucille Marchand born May 28 1928 to Edgar (1963) and Delima Stanger (1984). Rita was born and raised in Tilbury. She was predeceased by William (1997), Arthur (1987), Margaret (1997), Mary (1955) Helen (1969; Allan Runciman 2001), Oscar (1926), Oda (1927) Lawrence (1930) and Anthony (1933).
Aunt Rita worked on the family farm, then worked for local vegetable farmers during spring planting and seasonal work in the fall for local factories Campbell Soup, Hunts, Omsteads in the fall.
Aunt Rita did not marry. Her birds were her babies in town and the cats were her babies on the farm - they were spoiled!
Aunt Rita made sure Ruthann and I had great summers on the farm, and made sure we had a treasure chest of houseware to start our own homes.
In 2004 Ruthann passed away, which caused Aunt Rita much sadness.
She managed to attend the weddings of her great nieces Renee and Rachel. Her last grand adventure was to Port Stanley in 2013 to attend my wedding to John Hofhuis.
Over the years even though she did not have children of her own, our family grew and she loved to hold the babies. Each of her great nieces and nephews have a special memories of her and love to retell them. She loved to collect angels, she earmarked one for each child for a momento after her death.
Ruthann (Raymond Poissant) : Ryan (Natalie), Richele (Ryan McMichael), Renee (Jordan Regnier), Rachel (Greg Dilliott).
Great Great nieces and nephews; Avery, Sydney, Dylan, Conor, Audrey, Logyn and she just missed meeting Banks.
Nancy : Jared Berman, Jocelyn Berman (Adam Perry) Darryn and William Perry
Aunt Rita grew to love Gail Poissant (Ray) and John (aka Jack) and welcomed them into our family unit quickly.
Aunt Rita enjoyed our lunches at Rosies, going to the Legion for sliders and was truly surprised when the family took her to St Joachim for her 90th birthday. Occasionally, we would take her to Church, which she enjoyed rather than just Mass on TV. She always liked when we would make surprise visits to the house.
After her mobility became limited family Christmas's were held in Tilbury, so she would be able to join in the festivities.
Aunt Rita loved to garden, and tend to her plants inside when gardening outside was too much for her.
Aunt Rita was a member of the CWL for many years as well as Our Lady of Snow. She volunteered at Tilbury Manor for years.
Aunt Rita was fortunate to be able to stay in her own home until recently. Her support workers Diane and Sandra were awesome! They were "my girls" to her, until she was put into the nursing home.
Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to say good bye before her death Aug 25, 2021. I know that she knew how much her family loved her regardless of the circumstances - May she Rest In Peace!
