Pat Hardy posted a condolence

My name is Pat Hardy, My husband Doug and I had the privilege of knowing Bill when he lived with us at Kenmar Lodge in the 1970's He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and his energetic attitude We called him BJ and my Shadow. Doug spent most of the time doing the more exciting fun things with BJ and the boys as we had very young children of our own at the time. They enjoyed many outdoor activities as we live in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands, surrounded with forests and lakes and rivers. In summer, as we lived on a lake it would be swimming, canoeing, water skiing, camping, or days trips to Algonquin Park tubing down rivers, and overnight camping. as well. Winter would have involved local hockey and snowmobiling. I have many lovely memories of our BJ. Unfortunately my husband died in 2016. We always enjoyed seeing BJ when he headed up here to visit old friends. He and Doug would enjoy a coffee and catching up on the news. When Doug died BJ came up for his Celebration of Life Service but he left quite upset and I didn't get to visit. I know it would have meant a lot to Doug to have him come. Please accept my sincere condolences and prayers as you grieve this loss of such a special soul. Pat

I became Screech's unofficial Big Brother when he was in my Grade 6 class in Minden Ontario. He was living in a group home in the area and it was suggested to me that he would benefit from having extra activities to do in the area. My wife, Leona, and I would take Bill (or BJ) as we called him to special events or to our house for a visit. Even after he went to High School in Haliburton and eventually moved out of the area we kept in touch and he would often as an adult drive up here to show us his latest car and bring us up to date. He would always visit his friends from those early years and some of the adults from his group home days at Kenmar Lodge. Leona and I watched the video about Screech's life with great interest as it brought back many happy memories of our association with him over the years. Bill had a great sense of humour and a lot of very funny shirts! He also had a big heart as many of his friends, neighbours and family members have mentioned in these tributes. We will certainly miss BJ but nothing can take away these happy memories. Our condolences to everyone at this difficult time.
